Smoothhead Helmeted Basilisk

Dragons!

Not really. This little guy is about the size of my finger. He's recently hatched, just a few weeks old. But already he knows that the best way for him to stay safe is to be perfectly still, and rely on camouflage to remain unseen. This strategy will see him through his whole life.

He's a smoothhead helmeted basilisk (although I can't tell yet if he really is a he).

Right now he's helping us out by eating doctorflies. Once he's bigger he'll progress to spiders and even other lizards.
